Animals are full of surprises and potential. They are all unique in different ways and have a variety of hidden talents waiting to be exposed. Anyone who sees animals as just an animal could be missing out on something special.~ Kira Cazenave
Animals have different ways of communicating with people and other animals. They are able to show us many things through their actions, some of which can be transformed into something constructive. At Flying Colours Farm over the years, I have gotten to know all of the animals and their personalities and have had the opportunity to see what each of them has to offer.
Adonna had an opportunity to put this into action with her Friesian, Justin. She has had Justin since he was two years old and while she was training him, he always liked to grab the crop in his mouth. Since he was so mouthy, she decided to tape a paintbrush onto one end of the crop to see if he would paint with it and he did! At first, his paintings were mainly splotches but he eventually got the hang of the technique and started to make strokes with the paint.
It wasn’t long before Justin and Adonna started to get publicity for Justin’s new found talent. He has been on the news both nation wide and internationally and is known as Justin the Artistic Horse. They have also published a book and made appearances in events such as fairs and art exhibits. All of his paintings have horse related names and, although they are abstract paintings, viewers can typically see at least one horse silhouette in each painting. One of his early paintings was named the self portrait because the focus of the painting looked like a horse. That painting became his logo. He also has a signature for all of his artwork. He signs each painting with a hoof print.
Justin the Artistic Horse has a website as well as a Facebook page for people to “like” in order to follow him and Adonna, keeping up to date on their events and new paintings he completes. The website is www.artistichorses.com where site viewers will find their upcoming events, pictures of the artwork, the story of how they got started, and more.

I am so fortunate to have been able to become close friends with such a great horse and his family. They have been an inspiration to me and have impacted me in many positive ways over the years.
